You have to feel it to heal it.

ensoflow shiatsuI first heard the phrase “You have to feel it to heal it” in the world of alcohol recovery. Turns out alcoholics don’t like to feel because they have shut down their feelings.  When they get sober, well, things that wake up can sometimes hurt.

I am the child of an alcoholic. Children of alcoholics have this same problem, because we are generally sensitives who FEEL TOO MUCH, and thus, learned to shut it down.

What I have found doing healing work as a profession, however, is that EVERYONE needs to feel it to heal it.

One of the foundations of Five Element Theory is that people have both and original essence and an original wound. In the path toward healing, we support the essence, and FIND the wound, exposing it so that we can reduce it’s power over your life.

It is much like the shadow self in psychology. When we don’t know it’s there, it can wreak havoc on our lives. Once we bring it to light, we reduce it’s power and can actually bring healing to it and stop acting from it.

It’s the same thing with our dis-eases. They, too, have wounds that cause them that are calling for us to hear them.

In energetic medicine- Shiatsu, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Reiki, and Shamanic healing, we are on the hero’s journey with our clients, helping them to reclaim and inspire their ORIGINAL ESSENCE and removing the stressors against it.

What happens when we do that WELL, is that people often have a healing crisis. A healing crisis is when you feel a little sick or more specifically, get a re-emergence of symptoms from the exact thing you are seeking healing from.

Usually, these symptoms come back less strongly, and they let us practitioners know that we are on the right track. It might be a rash, or a dream, or a really emotional day, or your pain gets worse, or you can’t sleep, etc. It could be anything really.

This is why it’s best to find the right practitioner for you. We really are on a healing journey with our clients and the more we can discuss needs and symptoms, the better we can tailor treatments to your needs. For instance, if a client has a tough week coming up, then I can tailor sessions treatment to be more gentle and nurturing. If you have the time to heal and FEEL, then we can go “all out” and really push through some of that stuckness. healing crisis, shiatsu

When I work with people doing Shiatsu and Chi Nei Tsang, I generally tell people to give it 3 days after a session to let their body go through a healing process. The day after a session most people will feel emotional. Whatever was the thing that was stuck in their body will usually present because it’s moving out. This is a good thing! It is usually 2-3 days after a treatment that people feel great, once their mind, body, and emotions have had the time to process the healing and INTEGRATE.

If you are on your personal path of physical, mental or spiritual evolution, don’t be afraid to go through little “road bumps” of healing. Consult with your health care practitioner to see if what you are experiencing is a healing crisis or just actual crisis! Being really present with your healing allows you to learn how your body reacts to healing. In time you will be able to decipher between the two and you will learn what your best pace is for YOUR healing work.
